Music Video Analysis, 30 Seconds To Mars

30 Seconds To Mars-Closer To The Edge
This is the music video the song Closer To The Edge by 30 Seconds To Mars. There is no real genre characteristic featured in this video. They are singing about being closer to the edge and the only real relationship between the music and the video is the pace of the editing and that he stands near the edge of the fans at one stage. There are close ups of the entire band throughout the video but mainly the lead singer, Jared Leto. His image also changes a lot which is shown during this video because it is a montage of their world tour and it shows him with many different haircuts and looks. There is no intertexual references and the video is a mix between performance and concept based. This is because it shows them touring around the world and their performances and also shows their fans and what they think.

Music Video Analysis, Skepta

Skepta-Rescue Me
This music video is to the song Rescue Me by Skepta. One genre characteristic that appears in this video is when we see Skepta wearing a purple polo shirt. This is because a lot of people who listen to this type of music wear polo shirts showing the connection. In the song he sings about being rescued and he is located in a mental asylum which suggests that he wants to be rescued from there and that he doesn’t belong there. There is also a lyric where he says he doesn’t get a round of applauds and he claps himself showing visually what he means. There is also a lyric where he talks about being crazy and he moves his finger around his ear in a circular motion to show what he means. There are a lot of close ups of him as he is a solo artist and the main focus is on him and his actions. There is also a notion of looking near the end when he is being strapped down near the end and he looks at some equipment that they are going to use on him putting us in his shoes and making us feel sorry for him. There is one main and rather oblivious intertextual reference that is that the story of the video is much like the novel and 1975 film, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. This video is a mixture of both performance and narrative.

Music Video Analysis, Lostprophets

Lostprophets-Last Summer
The music video is to the song Last Summer by Lostprophets. In the video we see lead singer Ian Watkins driving around on the last day of school in three different years. 1984, 1994, and 2004. This is relevant to the lyrics because he is singing about last summer. The song is also about the bands memories of their “last summer’s” and the music shows different people experiencing them. The main close ups are of the lead singer. There is a lot of these during the verses but when it comes to the chorus it is mainly shots of the band as a whole playing there designated instruments. The main star motif is the fact that the singer is wearing a white shirt and a black tie. He appears in many lostprophet videos wearing the same attire. There are a few references to the motion of the lead singer looking at things. This is because he is driving his car and it cuts out to things happing on the street that he appears to be looking at. For example when he first gets in his car there is an old man cleaning his window and from the camera angle and positioning it looks like we are looking at him as if we are in the position of Ian. There are no intertextual references during this songs music video. This music video is performance and narrative based. It is around sixty percent narrative and forty
